My Safest SF Bike Route: A Nice Little Ride Through SOMA

June 1st, 2012 § 1 comment

I saw an old lady riding around on a pink beach cruiser with a basket yesterday and admired her fearlessness. I looked closer and it was the same make and model of my bike only bright pink. Today I decided to be bold and ride my bike from SOMA (10th and Harrison)  to the Ferry Building. I was afraid because I had attempted this route before and got stuck in potholes on Harrison. The vision of the white haired woman on the bike flashed in my mind and I thought to myself “if she can do it, so can I”. It was smooth sailing down Folsom St with the neatly paved bike lanes and then I turned left onto the embarcadero. On a whim I decided to take Howard street back and found that they had just put in bike lanes. There were no ugly pot holes, it was one way and it was far less busy than Folsom st.
